Garmisch-Partenkirchen is located about 90 kilometers south of Munich, the capital of Bavaria and is easy to get to by the Autobahn A95.
Garmisch-Partenkirchen is situated in a basin and reachable from three directions (north, south and west). If driving from the north it will be best using the Autobahn A95 in direction of Garmisch-Partenkirchen. The last 10 km of the trip you use the well-developed B2. It is only a 50-minute drive from Munich to Garmisch-Partenkirchen.
Ski fans arriving from countries and regions west of Garmisch-Partenkirchen, as there is Switzerland, the Arlberg, Lake Constance or Baden-Württemberg can reach the town through Erwald in Austria. The route will either lead by Imst and the Fernpass or the tunnel at the border Füssen/Reutte in direction of Garmisch-Partenkirchen.
Drivers coming from the Inn-Valley in Austria to Garmisch-Partenkirchen should use the route over the Zirlerberg near Innsbruck. They will pass by Seefeld, Scharnitz and Mittenwald. The distance of 60 km between Innsbruck and Garmisch-Partenkirchen is covered in 45 minutes.
