Mission Statement

The population of Garmisch-Partenkirchen has been exhibiting an extraordinary commitment to environmental matters for many years. In terms of sustainable development, the Environment & Transport Department has made it its business to show concrete, sustainable perspectives, strategies and measures for environmentally compatible skiing, and to implement them within the region in the context of the FIS Alpine World Ski Championships.

The tasks and aims within the Environmental and Sustainability Concept are valid for the preparation, realization and post-processing of the World Championships, with the precautionary principle underlying essential decisions in all areas of the organization.

eco-friendly transport of visitors, participants and accredited persons

Implementation of ‘ticket2nature'- nature sports camps prior to and following the World Ski Championships (core topic: major sports events)

PARTNERS AND COLLABORTATIONS

Within the Organizing Committee of the FIS Alpine World Ski Championships, the Foundation ‘Sicherheit im Skisport' (SIS), which is concerned with skiing safety, and the Environmental Advisory Board of the German Ski Association (DSV) are - in collaboration with the TÜV Rheinland - in charge of the Environment & Transport Department since September 2009.
