In 2005 the Nations Team Event was invented into the program of the Alpine Ski World Championships. The FIS changed the rules to make it ordinary and established the new Team Event at the season final in Garmisch-Partenkirchen last year.

The idea was to find an event where you can compare the starting nations, independable from the sex.
How many nations compete?
The best 16 nations of the FIS Nations Cup.
Who will be the overall winner?
The Teams compete in a playoff table. They compete against in knock out rounds. The winner is qualified for the next round, the loser ist out of the competition until there are only two teams for the final.
How are the teams placed in the playoff tree?
It is placed after the standing in the FIS Nations Cup.
Number 1 seed versus number 16 seed, Number 2 seed versus number 15 seed, 3 vs 14, 4 vs 12. 5 vs 11, 6 vs 11, 7 vs 10, 8 vs 9.
If there are less than 16 teams, the opponent has a bye.
How many athletes are a team?
Every nations is one team, consisting of six athlets maximum. There have to be at least two men and women each. The numbers are listed alphabetically. BIB number 1 - 4 for the ladies, 5 - 8 for the men.
Who is the winner of the current round?
In every round there are four runs on a Parallel Giant Slalom course. Two women and two men compete against each other:
Woman 1 Nation 1 versus Woman 1 Nation 2
Man 1 Nation 1 versus Man 1 Nation 2
Woman 2 Nation 1 versus Woman 2 Nation 2
Man 2 Nation 1 versus Man 2 Nation 2
The winner of the run gains one point. If they have the same time, each riders gain one point. If both riders crash, the rider gets the point who has passed the most gates in a correct way. The team with the most points after four runs win. If it is a tie, then the team with the best time, men's best time plus ladies best time, wins the round.
What is the prize money?
Prize money is overall 100.000 CHF, the winner gets 50.000 CHF, the second place gets 30.000 CHF and the third place gets 20.000 CHF.
All team members of the three best teams get a medal.
