On Friday, July 30th, the shop-window campaign for the FIS Alpine World Ski Championships 2011 in Garmisch-Partenkirchen (February 7th to 20th) was launched. True to the theme „We are a big family“, the German national ski-team presented itself to numerous media representatives in the shop-windows of Garmisch-Partenkirchen and gave a warm welcome to the fans and friends of competitive skiing.
An unusual campaign for an extraordinary event
„It’s a great campaign and above all a good idea“, said double Olympic champion Maria Riesch, obviously at ease in the role of a mannequin. Her sister Susanne could only agree: „I do feel more at home on the slope, but this is great fun.“ Felix Neureuther was also very pleased with his truly traditional Bavarian window and can’t wait for the World Championships to begin in his hometown: „With Garmisch and Kitzbühel, I was able to win two very important slalom races last year, that’s a good omen for the World Championships!“
Giant slalom titleholder Kathi Hölzl made a sweet entry into the shop-window of a Chocolaterie and is pleased with the preparations for the World Championships so far: „Of course, head coach Matthias Berthold leaving was quite a loss, but working with Thomas Stauffer is also going great.“
Olympic champion Viktoria Rebensburg, surrounded by autograph hunters just like all the other ski-celebrities, presented herself wearing a traditional Bavarian costume, a Dirndl: „Fantastic campaign, fantastic idea; just look at what’s going on here. It makes me even more excited about the World Championships!“
Fanny Chmelar, still beautifully tanned from her holiday on Bali with team colleague Gina Stechert, has a direct view of her shop-window at all times: „As an original inhabitant of Ludwig Street, I think it’s awesome that my window is in Ludwig Street, too.“
Carrying the enthusiasm for the festival in snow out into the world
Next to Mayor Thomas Schmid, Ga and Pa, the mascots of the FIS Alpine World Ski Championships, were also part of the event. The two characters, shaped like round snowballs and wearing red and blue hats, are already just as excited about the World Championships as the German ski-aces. Starting now, all participating ski associations and their top athletes will be presenting themselves in round about 70 shop-windows. With this and together with the community of Garmisch-Partenkirchen, they will be carrying the enthusiasm for the „festival in the snow“ out into the world.
