Lizz Görgl and Christof Innerhofer were the stars of the first week. All two won two medals, Görgl two Gold medals. The Championships had a spectacular start with a great opening ceremony.
The Alpine Ski World Championships were inaugurated on February 7th with a spectacular opening ceremony:
Fantastic light animations and show gigs inspired the spectators in the stadium and on television.

Lizz Görgl was in the spotlight the first day. At the opening ceremony she presented the official World Championships song “Between Heaven and Hell” - and between heaven and hell she performed a magical minimum time in the Super-G at the Kandahar. Rank one and the World Champion´s title was the final result for the Austrian.
More cheering on the second World Championships´ day – this time for Germany: Maria Riesch won the Bronze medal.

Lindsey Vonn surprised the international press with a “new” Downhill suit: She absolved the training run wearing
ski jacket and ski pants. She is actually quite known for her special racing suit designs.
At day five, Anna Fenninger was World Champion in the Super Combined event ahead of Tina Maze (SLO) and Anja Paerson (SWE).
The Austrian did a Slalom race without mistakes and relegated the favourites to their positions.
Day six was the big men´s day. Showdown at men´s Downhill. It was especially Erik Guay´s day:
The Canadian impressed by an outstanding race through the "Free Fall" and won this prestigious event ahead of Swiss Didier Cuche and Christof Innerhofer (ITA).
Lizz Goergl and the Kandahar – a love story. In the Ladies´ Downhill, she relegated top favourites Lindsey Vonn (USA) and Maria Riesch (GER)
to ranks two and three and ensured her second Gold in Garmisch-Partenkirchen.
