Everything has an end, even the FIS Ski World Championships in Garmisch-Partenkirchen. But not yet, there will be one last contest. The men’s Slalom on Sunday will be a crowning finish to the 41th Alpine Ski World Championships.
The Ski World Championships in Garmisch-Partenkichen end with the Men’s Slalom . The first run will start at 10 a.m., the second at 1.30 p.m. Both contests will be staged at Gudiberg Arena. There is one favourite in the race for the last title.
Kostelic favourite after short break
The role of the favourite can only be given to one man. Ivica Kostelic is the big favourite for the last gold medal. The Croatian stood on the podium five times during the World Cup, two out of five he was first. Kostelic left Garmisch-Partenkirchen after Bronze in Super-G to train in his home country. The World Cup leader is cautious although he is the favourite: „I hope that I‘ll have two good runs and then we‘ll see what happens“. If these two runs will be flawless, then there should be a medal waiting for him.
Three in a golden fight
First follower of Kostelic is Jean Baptiste Grange. The French won three World Cup Slaloms and is second in the overall ranking. Also Sweden’s Andre Myhrer could be dangerous. He won one Slalom this season and is ranked third behind Kostelic and Grange. Alongside with Kostelic they are the hot favourites for the podium positions.
Local hero as last hope
In view of Germany, the World Championships are not really successful. They achieved only two Bronze medals, no Silver or Gold medal as expected. There is one chance of rescue the Championships for Germany. Local hero Felix Neureuther can win a medal, maybe the golden one. The sportsman from Garmisch-Partenkirchen won the last slalom at Gudiberg at the World Cup finals last year.
