Aksel Lund Svindal (NOR) is the new World Champion in Super Combined. The Norwegian won the Gold medal, Silver and Bronze went to Christof Innerhofer and Peter Fill from Italy.
He was the leader after the Downhill and was still first after he raced the Slalom down the Gudiberg. Aksel Lund Svindal defended his title of 2009 and is the defending and new World Champion of the Super Combined. Italians Christof Innerhofer and Peter Fill won Silver and Bronze medals. Innerhofer completed a full medal set, consisting of Gold, Silver and Bronze.
A successful title defender
In 2009 Aksel Lund Svindal won the Gold medal at Val d'Isere. He was also leading the downhill in 2009 and won after a good Slalom result. Two years later, he accomplished this again. It is his first medal at the World Championships 2011. The medal is also the sixth Gold medal for Norway in the alpine Combined.
Glory Italy
Double celebration for Italy. Christof Innerhofer won his third medal in Garmisch-Partenkirchen. Peter Fill won the Bronze medal. A good Downhill result at the Kandahar was the cornerstone of the three medal winners. Svindal was leading after the Downhill run, Innerhofer was third and Fill was placed fourth. All three are good allrounder, their specality are the speed events.
No medal for Slalom specialists
Benjamin Raich was one of the favourites. He lost his chances at the Downhill because he lost three seconds. He raced a good Slalom, with the second best runtime, but he only finished in fourth place. Ted Ligety and Bode Miller, United States, Olympic champions of 2006 and 2010, failed to finish in the Slalom. Miller didn't pass gate number three.
