Ted Ligety (USA), Cyprien Richard (FRA) and Philipp Schörghofer (AUT) were awarded with the medals for the Men's Giant Slalom at the Medal Plaza.
In an exciting second run the American Ted Ligety implemented his role as a favourite and won the the Men's Giant Slalom. The leader in the World Cup came from fourth place forward to first place and won in front of Cyprien Richard from France (+0,08) and the Austrian Philipp Schoerghofer (+0,43).
Only Schoerghofer remains in top three
The second run changed totally the result of the first run. None of the first ten racers showed the same rank as in the first run. After his seventh place in the first run Cyprien Richard came on the podium and was only beaten by Ted Ligety. In second after the first run only Philipp Schoerghofer remained in the top three and finished third.
Svindal misses his second gold medal
Ivica Kostelić dropped from place three to place thirteen after a bad second run. Also halftime-leader Aksel Lund Svindal wasn't able to beat Ligetys time. So the Norwegian missed his chance, to become the second double World Champion in Garmisch-Partenkirchen after Lizz Goergl. The winner of the Super Combined finished fourth in the end.
As the second youngest racer in the final classement the 18 year old Stefan Luitz finished 29th after a mentionable 17. place in the first run. For the young German this is the best result in his career. At his only race in the World Cup so far he did not reach the second run.
