The 5th meeting of the Coordination Group for the FIS Alpine World Ski Championships 2011 took place in Garmisch-Partenkirchen (GER) on Tuesday 4th May 2010. Besides FIS and the growing GAP 2011 Team, the participants included the German Ski Association, the television and marketing rights holder, the European Broadcasting Union and its marketing agency Tridem Sports, as well as the host broadcaster GAP TV 2011.
Glass fiber cabling
The main focus of the meeting was a debrief of the experiences and
lessons learned during the FIS World Cup Finals 2010, especially in the
areas of transportation, parking, shuttle systems, ceremonies, event
production, just to mention a few. Significant progress was made towards
finalizing the plans for the TV production and infrastructure, with the
IBC to be constructed at the Kandahar and connected with glass fiber
cabling to the other main sites at the Gudiberg slalom hill and the
Medals Plaza.
Relocation of the finish at Gudiberg
At Gudiberg, a major change decided after the World Cup Finals is the
relocation of the finish area outside of the OIympic ski stadium. The
grandstand will be built at the foot of the Gudiberg that slightly
reduces the length of the slalom. Given the relatively long running time
of the Garmisch slalom, the reduced length of the piste will not be an
issue but rather the modified finish design promises even more charm and
enhanced atmosphere for the audiences on-site.
Accreditation already open
Besides crafting and revising the final plans for all aspects of the
event, GAP 2011 will be launching a communications offensive focused on
the tagline ‘Festspiele im Schnee - Natürlich Bayerisch' to support the
promotional program and ticket sales. The online accreditation is
already open at the revamped website at www.gap2011.com.
Free transportation for ticket holders
"We can be particularly satisfied with the accomplishments of the LOC
and GAP TV 2011 during this Coordination Group meeting with key
logistical issues. Activation plans are developing well and a notable
coup for the championships is that transportation in the whole region of
Bavaria will be free of charge for ticket holders and accredited
persons," commented Sarah Lewis, FIS Secretary General.
