FIS Alpine World Ski Championships 2011: Organization

On January 5, 2007 the Veranstaltungs GmbH (Organizing Committee) for the FIS Alpine World Ski Championships 2011 was officially registered as a limited liability company, a subsidiary of the German Ski Federation. All groups concerned with the organization, the German Ski Association, the Marktgemeinde Garmisch-Partenkirchen and the Ski-Club Garmisch are represented in the presidency of the Veranstaltungs GmbH.
The Organizing Committee is divided into a strategic and an operational level.

Strategic level
The strategic level of the Organizing Committee consists of the Presidency, Honorary Presidency, the Advisory Board and the Coordination Board. Head of the Presidency is the president of the German Ski Association (DSV) Alfons Hörman, Vice President the mayor of Garmisch-Partenkirchen, Thomas Schmid.

Members of the Honorary Presidency are merited persons who rendered outstanding services either in sports or in politics.
Rosi Mittermaier, Dr. Erwin Huber, Fritz Wagnerberger and Landrat Harald Kühn support the Organizing Committee in social und political matters.

The Advisory Board acts in a consultative function. It is composed of financial experts
(Helmut Schreyer, Manfred Baldauf), experts for legal matters (Franz Steinle, Gerhard Dambeck) and experts for the organization of big sports events (Michael Maurer, OC Four-Hill Tournament)
An additional part of the strategic level is the Coordination Board. Its members come from the FIS, (Sarah Lewis, Christian Knauth), the European Broadcasting Union (Marc Jörg, Ingolfur Hannesson), the marketing agency and the national host broadcaster (ZDF/ARD).
The board meets on a regular basis to discuss the further development of the project and to coordinate the joint course of action.

Operational level
The general management heads the operational level. Peter Fischer and Walter Vogel both managing directors, administrate and coordinate the objectives, assignments and responsibilities of the different sections. The department of organization is divided in seven sections.

- Logistics: Logistics, transport, events, opening and closing ceremonies
- Tourism/accommodation
- Sport projects: accreditation, volunteer work, youth camp
- Marketing: media, communication, sponsoring
- Organization of races/constructions: race management, staff at the racecourses, constructions, cable railways, technics and racecourses
- Administration: administration, ticket sale
- Environment/traffic
