The Alpine Training Center at “Gudiberg” is open for the athletes of the Bavarian and the German Ski Association (BSV and DSV) since 1990 and used for training and racing measures. After getting the tender for the FIS Alpine World Championships plans to adapt this slope have immediately been designed. In February 2007 the World Cup Slalom took place again at the legendary “Gudiberg” after a couple of years. The extraordinary inspiring ambience (there were way over 10.000 spectators) and the spectacular acrobatic of the slalom athletes proved once again the significance of this venue.
To adjust the shape of the slope to the newest technical demands and optimize training and race conditions some rebuilding has been accomplished since the summer of 2007.

site adaptation
For the slalom 2007 the finish was already transferred into the historical Olympic Stadium, the distance to cover was made longer and more attractive for the spectators. One part of the western grandstand has been torn down and shortened by approximately 20 m. During the World Cup Slalom on February 9th, 2008, the athletes were already able to use the new entrance into the stadium offering now a width of 35 m.

Temporary grandstands will be erected for the big venues slalom, the opening and closing ceremonies of the World Championships are scheduled in this stadium, offering room for 50.000 visitors. Unique in the world of the “Alpine Ski Circus” is the fact that you can see the entire slope from each and every position on site.

The old and in the meantime ramshackle house at the finish line has been dismantled in 2007. The swilley below the steep finish slope has been filled up with soil in order to get a constant downgrade into the stadium and better use out of the slope.
More alterations are planned in 2008 for the middle and upper section of the slope.
The leveling of the slope will be achieved by moving soil in order to obtain a better way for a more ecological, energy saving, more efficient and technically simplified preparation of the slope.

ascent support
In the course of the planned alterations and improvements for the FIS Alpine World Ski Championships 2011 a new ski lift will be built. The installation of a double chair lift with pullout possibility in the middle and direct connection to “Kathi Hang” is scheduled for the left side of the “Gudiberg” in 2009. This saves the artificial snowmaking and preparation of the former lift trace and will reduce cost and energy consumption.

snow making system
The actual snow making system will be modernized and enlarged in 2009. The same applies
to the pumping capacity and the water reservoir (Kainzenbad). As a result the snow reliability and the degree of utilization of the facilities will increase.

floodlight installation
The existing floodlight installation will be enlarged. It is exclusively used for training purposes but could also be amended for the program of the World Championship. (i.e. night slalom)

service building
At the place of the old house at the finish line, it will be built a new service building, integrated into the shortened western grandstand of the stadium.

Estimated date of completion for all the measures at the Gudiberg is fall 2009.
