FIS Coordination Group visits Ga-Pa

On Monday November 12th 2007 the members of the FIS Coordination group met with members of the Organizing Committee (OC) to get informed about the progress in planning of the FIS Alpine World Ski Championships 2011. The 4-hour-meeting took place at the Hotel Sonnenbichl, which will also host the FIS delegation in 2011.FIS Coordination Board
The Coordination Board meets on a regular basis with the OC to get information about the current status of planning, already concluded measures and further development of the World Championships.
The group is composed of representatives of the International Ski Federation (FIS)
The „European Broadcasting Union“ (EBU) and the „Host Broadcasters“ (HBC). General Secretary Sarah Lewis and the Managing Director Christian Knauth represent the FIS; the EBU is represented by Ingolfur Hannesson and Marc Jörg and the HBC by the Program Directors of the broadcasting corporations ZDF/ARD respectively the Bavarian Broadcasting (BR). These meetings have the intention to promote on a regular basis the permanent exchange of ideas and experiences between the member organizations.
The chairman of the Executive Committee of the Supervisory Board Alfons Hörmann and the members of the Supervisory Board Thomas Schmid and Christian Neureuther represented the Organizing Committee of the FIS Alpine World Ski Championships 2011.
The Managing Directors of the OC Peter Fischer and Walter Vogel held the up-date presentation. Details concerning the various points of interest were outlined by the respective head of sections, Wolfgang Seiler (environment/traffic), Heinz Mohr (race organization/slopes) and Stefan Stankalla (marketing).

FIS General Secretary Sarah Lewis complemented the OC on the already achieved work. ”We are really satisfied of your work here in Garmisch-Partenkirchen. The dedication and engagement of the people in Garmisch- Partenkirchen is impressive, they give it all.”
In particular, the substantial progress in planning impressed Lewis: “At this point the OK is already very far in its work, everything feasible has been done.”
The responsible members of the OC for the Alpine World Ski Championships were able to seize some interesting suggestions for the planning to come, Walter Vogel points out: “The exchange showed us that we are on the right path. We will be forcing our planning efforts in order to present perfectly organized competitions this winter to promote the Alpine World Ski Championships.”
